Gaming pc upgrade

Hi i need to upgrade my current pc. I use it for gaming and it is not satisfactory now.

1. Location: Slovakia

Budget: under700€

2. Aim: gaming mostly ( FHD 60+fps)

3. Monitors: asus 1080p 60hz (want to buy some fhd 144hz)

4. parts:

Want to keep: gpu, hdd, case

Need: cpu, mobo, ram, maybe psu

5. Why: FX 8320e.

Current parts. FX 8320e, 8gb ddr3, msi 970 mobo, zalman 600 psu, zalman z3+ case.

I am thinking of i5 8400 + 16gb ddr4.

Any recommendations. Give me some ideas.

what GPU do you currently have?

and i5 is great with 16Gb or ram, a new MOBO will still be needed

the FX 8320e is definitely a bottleneck for most gpu's and games

a b360 or a h370 should be a cheaper alternative to a z370 as they are board more suited to k model processors (that are unlocked and allow overclocking) but yes a z370 will work with a i5 8400

You can get a B360 board and an i5 8400, alternatively you could get a Ryzen 2600 and a B460 board. (both paired with 16GB of 300mhz ram)

CPU https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0759FWJDK/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&psc=1 , since you're only gaming, this is better suited than a i5 8400 - especially overclocked.
MOBO https://www.alternate.lu/ASRock/Z370-Killer-SLI-Mainboard/html/product/1384792? , no compromise on this one & best bang4buck
COOLER https://www.alternate.lu/Cryorig/H7-CPU-Kühler/html/product/1174912? more than enough, can sustain overclocking
PSU https://www.alternate.lu/be-quiet-/System-Power-9-500W-PC-Netzteil/html/product/1418651? non-modular, 80+ bronze rating, but very easy to use and no ketchup & mustard (only black cables)
RAM https://www.alternate.lu/G-Skill/DIMM-16GB-DDR4-2400-Kit-Arbeitsspeicher/html/product/1226993? heatspreaders are unnecessary
SSD https://www.alternate.lu/Mushkin/REACTOR-500-GB-Solid-State-Drive/html/product/1327727?event=search for your fast booting needs

It should total around 630€. Good luck!

Is i3 enough for games? Also i have MSI Core frozr l, it should work with 1151 socket i hope.

Thanks i will look for local prices on these things.

i3 is enough. 4 cores are more than enough, and you can also overclock this chip.

hi.

i3 - i5, those are meaningless. So yeah, this chip is very underrepresented. It performs very well for games with it's 4 cores and high clock speed.

@Konrad_K @Beer_Nontitju @AskTJ @WickedStarfish so i chcecked prices .

I3 8350k, I5 8400, ryzen 5 2600 and can get any of them for 160€. Now i just have to choose well.

i3 8350K is out, it's just not worth it. The R5 has 12 threads and more cache, but the i5 will most likely perform better in games.

It doesn't really matter. The differences (for gaming & browsing) are just too minimal between the different chip models, also the deltas between different CPUs within the same chip model are also drowning any possible significant difference between the different chip models.

In short, just take the one that feels the best to you. For pure gaming, the overclockable 8350k is the best choice with your budget, on paper. But yeah the 8400 and 2600 are more well-rounded. I'd take the 8400 if I had to choose, so you don't need to bother finding fast RAM.
