I know its very old but i managed to get an fx-8350 cheap and since i cant afford expensive upgrades i bought it, i installed it fine however it isnt detected all the cores and threads or something? its meant to be an 8 core processor but in task manager it shows 2 cores and in cpu-z it shows 4

What does the BIOS say?

FX 8xxx processors are technically 4 core/8 thread chips, so you're not going to see 8 physical cores detected by anything, but it's odd that it's not detecting more than 2/4. How does it perform?

Check the BIOS, maybe some of the cores are disabled. Try resetting the BIOS.

Checking the BIOS may help to see whether it's disabled from there, if so reset it to factory setting (or set the number of cores yourself), or....

From Windows you can....

Run msconfig, then head to "Boot", "Advanced options", then untick "Number of processors".

Just check the BIOS first.

Go into your BIOS. It's probably under CPU configuration.

Finding enabled/disabled cores should be under CPU Configuration/Advanced CPU Configuration depending on your board, but something along those lines.

Press F1 (Help) and see which key shows "Restore Default" or something similar like "Optimized Default". It's under settings.

To see how many cores are utilized, just like @kelvinhall05 said, probably under CPU settings.

Alright.

The columns that are numbered 1-8 signify your CPU threads. It looks like 7 and 8 are disabled, going by the lack of information for them. If you go the Save & Exit, there should be an option to use default BIOS settings.

If that doesn't work, go into msconfig in Windows and try changing the processor settings in there.

All the cores are now showing there but I turned on the pc and it’s still showing exactly the same as it was before in CPU-Z and task manager

Hit Windows+R on your keyboard, type in msconfig and hit Enter.

Go to the Boot tab, click on Advanced Options, and set your processor count to 8.

In the boot it only goes up to 4 cores and still in task manager it says 2 cores and cpu-z says 4 cores 4 threads

That's weird, it should go all the way to 8.

You sure that's an 8xxx series FX processor?

What about Device Manager? Does that detect all the proper cores?

If you open that and scroll down to where it lists Processors, and expand that menu, it should have 8 FX 8320 listings.
