I spilled coffee on my keyboard and now it does not work. I understand that but when I plug in a new keyboard I cant type and the keys switch to some macros that for example opens a new tab for chrome. Also my mouse stops working except for the left click, the wheel turns in zoom mode.I tried trouble shoot and nothing came up. Restarting the computer fixed the issue but now I am stuck with a crap membrane keyboard and not my $100 rosewill mechanical one. I would like to know why my peripherals fail to work properly after plugging the working keyboard it?

Also, when I plug in the mechanical keyboard my computer restarts on its own and the problem above happens even when it restarts.

do peripherals that haven't had coffee poured on them work correctly?

Okay, software side of things.

As your coffee has spilled on your keyboard, and most likely corroded or broke some of the connectors from the PCB, It doesn't detect that the key is being pressed.

Most keyboards have two conductors. One on the main board and one on the key itself, that in theory has it's own unique identifier that talks to the computer.

If these connections don't meet, there is no way for the key to talk to the PCB, and therefore Windows can't interpret what key is being pressed.

Then why did the working keyboard not work properly when I plugged it in?

it's not software it's hardware. pouring coffee on the hardware is going to physically damage the circuits. the physical hardware has to be working in order for the software to work.

Then why did the replacement not work?

so in your mind....

microsoft should have built in a program loop that can detect when a keyboard has had coffee poured on it so it can physically reset the usb controller thus enabling the user to plug in a new keyboard without restarting?

Maybe the coffee caused an electrical surge and your USB ports are now delivering bad voltages to your peripherals? Mate, there are a number of options that contribute to user error and why, after the error, the computer doesn't work anymore. I am betting your USB ports are FUBAR'd.

I get it what you're saying bud,

Your USB ports may still work, but it clearly doesn't communicate well between the peripherals you plug in, and Windows.

And it is pointing more to Windows not being able interpret, than the vast amount of peripherals you have plugged in to test. Surely they can't all be lemons?

Guess ya lucked out buddy.

hmm , try this , pour more coffee on the keyboard and complain about strange issues that arise from it.

Everything you're complaining about has resulted from you physically damaging the machine..... i have no idea how to tell you that you cannot expect a machine to work correctly when it's being damaged. there's nothing i can type here
