Hi,

My old beast computer died today :(. Had an old athlon x2 5200+ in it, so im really sad.

But I think I need a new computer very soon. I'm going to use it for playing games, browsing on the interwebz and I will be using SolidWorks next year (not very much).

I think it will be something like this:

AMD fx8350

Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3

EVGA GeForce GTX 660 FTW signature 2 3GB

Samsung 830 128 GB

Corsair TX650M

Be quiet! Dark rock advanced C1

Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

Patriot Viper 3 Black Mamba Edition DDR3-1866 CL9 kit

I really want a good looking system and a quiets system. But I have a few questions.

What will be better for my usage, an 8350 or an 3570K? the price difference is only 20 bucks over here.

Another possibility is to wait for haswell, but should that really be worth the waiting?

The FX-8350 would be fine, there's not much performance difference between the options. Your GPU choice will have more impact. On that note I think the Radeon HD 7850 or 7870 is a better option than the 660. Last thing I'd comment is that I think you should change your power supply to a SeaSonic SSR-550RM. It's better quality in general as well as more efficient and modular. You won't miss the extra wattage.

I agree an AMD card for the GPU is a better option, if you don't want the games they give you, you can always sell it and then reduce the final price on the gpu :)

Also if you're not planing to go Sli/Crossfire yeah 550w is more than enough, but if later you want to do that go for a 700w psu

Thanks for the replies. I really want to push the 8350 a lot further, and maybe in the future I am going to upgrade to SLI or Crossfire. I don't know how silent the seasonic is, but as far as i know it hasn't a 0rpm mode. Thats the main reason why I wanted that Corsair tx650m. But I'm not sure about the gpu. I like the 7870, but I've heard that solidworks can benefit from CUDA. And the next problem is: I cant find a nice black gpu.

I do not have any parts I could recycle. It's a really old computer. Athlon x2 5200+, Nvidia 9600gt, etc.

Currently, all the upper model SSDs are so fast and reliable, you probably won't notice a difference between any of them.

I'm looking at yous Corsair Neutron, Samsung 840 Pro, OCZ Vector, SanDisk Extreme, Kingston Hyper X 3K, Intel 520.

Also, I think instead of getting the Corsair Tx650m, look for a Seasonic X series PSU. like the XFX Black Edition.

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207029

They're fully modular, 80 Plus Gold, and have a hybrid fan mode where the fan only goes on under load (basically, my PSUs fan is never on, because I never load it enough :) )

15" MBP TB

AMD 5800X | Gigabyte Aorus Master | EVGA 2060 KO Ultra | Define 7 || Blade Server: Intel 3570k | GD65 | Corsair C70 | 13TB

Thank you for your replies.

I think I am going to grab the Vector, just because it comes with far cry 3.

But as much as I would like to grab the xfx, I can't.

The XFX cost around 135 and the corsair about 90 euros. I really like the XFX power supplies because you know it is good quality.

But since the corsair is 45 euros cheaper...

The nice thing about the corsair is that it has a 0rpm mode -similar to the hybrid fan mode from xfx-.
