i dont want to put a new head unit in the car because all the new ones dont look good in an old bug

why not buy a new retro styled radio , they have aux inputs and are far more modern/powerful

if your bug is still running the original am radio that is mono then an amp isn't going to be able to make it into stereo at all

any one know anything about car stereos/amp ? i want to put a new apm in my vw bug so it wont be mono any more. but i dont know shit about car stereos or speakers, so if any one could recommend or tell me what to look in a stereo/amp that is int a head unit and speakers both should be relatively cheap. thank you

well so long as it's 12v then almost any head unit and speakers should work , the hard part isnt really buying and selecting the parts but simply installing them.

the vw won't have mounting locations anywhere for standard part sizes like single din stereos or 6x9 speakers. so you'll have to do quite a lot of fabrication to get everything mounted correctly.

I've been partial to Poineer branded head units in the past as they seem to work well for me. speaker i suppose can be up to you as the head unit will most likely be a 200w or so unit that can power 4 speakers. so really depends on where you're mounting them to will determine the size.

is your bug using the original am radio? becuase if so you have to buy a head unit anyway

that head unit will run 4 speakers , but not a sub woofer no. to be fair no head unit will really run a subwoofer

yes you could if you wanted , i know back in my teenage years i knew many friends would do the old "house speakers seatbelted into the back seats" thing quite often.

well you still havent answered if you're using the stock radio that came with the beetle

in which case i would say no dont buy those. the stock radio in the beetle is maybe 10 watts and after 40-50 or so years is beyond worn out which is most likely why it produces such bad sound. hooking anything up to it will sound just as bad.
