I have a GA-Z170XP-SLI with a G4560, had to put in an i3 6100 first to flash a newer BIOS first though.

It doesn't work just because it fits. While the G4900 fits in Socket 1151, it's an 8th generation chip (Coffee Lake). Coffee Lake chips will not function in Skylake or Kaby Lake boards without extensive BIOS modifications that may or may not be stable and will certainly void both CPU and motherboard warranties. Now we can argue semantics since OP asked if it fits, but it's clear that the OP's intent is to actually use the system and not just stare at it.
