What should I do?

Nick100800

There was a thunderstorm a few days ago and some lightning struck really close to home and at the same time, my pc made a loud popping noise then shut off. I panicked so I tried turning it back on immediately but then lightning struck again and the same popping noise was there again. Next I just shut everything off and waited out the storm. Afterwards when I tried turning on the pc again everything was working fine and I checked anywhere I could for any blown capacitors and couldn't find any. Do you guys think it's worth it to keep using this power supply or should I be looking for a replacement right away and what could have caused the popping noise?

Just replace the PSU to be safe. Whats a $50-70 psu in the face of everything else possibly shorting. In the future look into investing in a UPS. In Florida and those thunderstorms can be brutal.

The popping is probably one of the failsafes in the PSU to avoid shorting and damaging the entire system.

However, I would suggest replacing it alongside getting a UPS with surge protection.
