Hello.

Last night I noticed that the backplate of the mobo and in certain parts, the side of the case tickle me. I mostly see this when I try to plug the HDMI in the back and I touch the backplate, my LEDs dim and there's a VERY small spark, but like I said, last night the side of the case tickled me a little harder. Most likely it's not 220V, but I really don't want to short the mobo. I rebraided the PSU wires so I thought that was the issue, but I also remember the backplate had grounding issues way before I started meddling in there.

And frankly how the hell is the case electrified? I assume the rear ports touch the backplate and the plate touches the case, so this means the mobo is at fault?

How can I ground the whole case better? Maybe some rubber between the I/O ports and the backplate or tie a wire from the case to the ground of the socket?

Where to begin testing for issues?

Thanks

As a side note so I don't open another thread since the question is kinda stupid, but just want your own opinion. Is it an upgrade Ryzen 5 2600 (OC) from i5 7600k (OC) for playing WoW, CSGO and DOTA?

MSI Z270 SLI PLUS - 7600k 5.1GHz - Corsair LPX 3000MHz - G1 Gaming GTX1060 - Arctic LiquidFreezer 240 - Crucial m.2 275GB - WD 1TB - EVGA B3 750W - Segotep Lux - LG 34UC79 Curved - Redragon Yama - Redragon Hydra - Gigabyte WIFI

Sound is provided by a Pioneer Amp from the 70s - if it's not broken, don't fix it.

If your cpu is truly at 5.1 ghz then no, for these games super fast single core is more important, so ryzen would be a downgrade.

Forgot to change it, it's at 5.0. I encountered a little too many bluescreens during games at 5.1...

Is your power receptacle properly grounded?

All of your earth ground goes through the PSU's earth pin on the AC power cord.  Sometimes, something as simple as too much paint between the PSU mounting screw and chassis or too much paint under the PSU's grounding screw can cause this.  Not saying that's the problem... just saying that's how common it is.  The easiest thing right now is to make sure your power cord is actually properly earth grounded.

I don't understand the paint reference. Like actual paint or?

I'll get on disassembling everything and replug stuff to see what's up.

Thanks

Paint.  As in paint.

Not a problem you would cause.  But a problem at the factory.  It happens.  They're supposed to mask off the area where the ground screw goes on the PSU housing, but some times they miss a housing or the tape falls off before or during the spray......

Don't disassemble your PC yet.  That's a waste of time if the problem is actually your receptacle isn't properly grounded!  :D

Test the receptacle with a DMM first:  https://www.doityourself.com/stry/how-to-test-for-ground

If you don't have a DMM, simply try the PC in another room or different house.
