1050 laptop

Is it possible to have a GTX 1050 in a laptop or does it have to be a GTX 1050 MAX Q (not including external graphics cards)?

There are 1050 laptops, but I'm not sure if there's a Max-Q version of the 1050.

But the 1050 isn’t the same as the desktop 1050, right?

no they arent. Mobile graphics card doesnt necessarily need to be Max-Q.

They are the same basic core. The mobile version has a higher reference boost clock and comes with up to 4GB VRAM, while the desktop version only comes with 2GB or 3GB.

 

Depending on how a given laptop handles thermals, the laptop version should perform identically to the desktop variant, if not marginally better. But that generally isn't the case and you'll see the laptop variant be slightly slower.

1050N is slightly slower than 1050 desktop due to reduced ROPs (16 vs 32)
