Can use a laptop or PC as a capture card with the HDMI port as an Input?

Vortex321

Just had a random idea was wondering if it's even possible, perhaps with a special piece of software?

For laptops(and I'm pretty sure even desktops) no because most hdmi ports on laptops are only outputs and not inputs.

You can get things like elgatocapture cards and those become hdmi input. You can just use OBS Studio or maybe they come with a software. I don’t have one but LTT did a video about capture cards. I think it was when they were still recording in Linus’ house.
