Recommended setup!

I currently am running a z270 msi gaming board with one 3.5 out swapping between speakers(general use ) and headset (for games); included is the photo of my 3.5mm plug into bose companions;  I want to run (in addition to the computer speakers :bose:) an output to my Onkyo TX-NR575 with Deftec pc600 5.1 speaker system.

I want to be able to switch between the Bose (2 speaker) system while using the PC as a workstation and the 5.1 as Home theater/Music needs.
It seems that the board doesn't support a sub based on the connections I believe "center" is also "sub"  ... so would I be able to use spdif out to let the receiver handle 5.1 and switch between the outputs from the desktop?
Is this possible? Would I need some sort of Audio controller? As far as I understand Spdif out is pre-processed "raw" audio which I do believe my receiver is capable of decoding.

AS ALWAYS I am 80% sure I have no idea what I am doing !

Thanks in advance!!!

Just  run a SPDIF optical cable from your MOBO into the Onkyo receiver that should handle your home theater.  (See note below)

Run your bose speakers / headphones out of the 3.5mm port.

To switch between the two just right click the audio icon bottom right of your screen by your clock and go to "playback devices" in there you will see the 3.5 stereo connection and SPDIF just right click which ever one you want to be using and set it to default device.  This may not be needed though the SPDIF connection.... it might always be sending the signal to your Onkyo amp I'm not too sure...  Another thing is to check the properties of the SPDIF connection to ensure its sending a true 5.1 signal to your Onkyo Receiver.   this may require some reading in your MOBO manual or google.

Don't worry about hooking up multiple cables etc for a Subwoofer to your PC your onkyo receiver will deal with all of that.

Hope this helps a bit

Cheers.

I fully understand my existing set up, I even created some exe. Bats to swap between audio outputs via my stream deck on the fly its very convenient.  I didn't consider spdif! That's an awesome suggestion. I didn't look but thought mobo only had digital out

Keep trying to sign this stupid screen but it wont work...
