Hey guys, so I just got some new upgrades for my, (New SSD, case, cpu, cooler, monitor) it boots so fast with my SSD, it is 20 seconds faster then my previous HDD, which is huge, but the whole PC still takes 30 secs to boot, fast but I am sure SSD's are faster. I have come to the conclusion that it is my motherboard BIOS splash screen, it just takes so long to get past, it just sits there, for a good 15 secs or so. Do you have any way I can make it disappear faster? I would really want it to be super quick. All help is greatly appreciated :D Thanks in advance!

What OS are you using?

Some motherboards may have an option to shorten or disable the splash screen, so you might want to look for that.

Windows 7 Ultimate, I am using the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4, I have tried Updating the BIOS to the latest one, but it didn't seem to speed up  anything, it did give me the option to use "Fast boot" which I did, but I didn't notice any change :/ Any ideas? I would love this PC to boot much faster, it would be so great, to see it boot in like 15 seconds, like on those youtube videos! Thanks for reply :D

Turn off fast boot and it will boot faster. Fast boot is generally for Win 8...

turn off al unneeded onboard devices, any secondary controllers (if not being used), RAID (if not using it).

usually if using a RAID config, the system has to wait for the RAID controller to get booted up and config

the drives from last shutdown. RAID get for up-time performance, crap for boot-times.

I have been searching through the motherboard for a while and cannot find anything :/ there is nothing to make the splash screen faster or slower. However asrock instant boot seems to be an option, what do you think?

are you running a RAID config for your boot drive(s)?

got any wild memory configuration like 2x 1600 and 1x 1333 stick?

remove any USB devices not need for boot

remove any external eSATA, USB 3.0, external HDD, printers, etc not needed

for boot.

usually when the system hangs on motherboard splash, it is motherboard issues

trying to configure the devices or input/output. do you have an LED Code readout?

if so, does it hang on a two-digit code and then proceed? what is that code?

No RAID config, I have 4 ram sticks at 1600Mhz

All USB things are removed that are not needed

same with eSATA and so on.

and the LED code is A2

seems a common issue on the Asrock Z77 Extreme 4. after reading a couple of other

forums, comes down to devices and graphics (GPU).

you using a SSD or HDD? you have the drive in the SATAII or SATAIII port? SATAIII

used port should be bottom gray ports, the top grey ports are ASMedia ports. if using

SATAII drive use any of the SATAII black ports.

using onboard graphics or dedicated GPU?

A GTX 680, and yes an SSD in, I will double check which SATA port it is plugged into, I am sure it is in SATA III, but not sure about which greys, but thanks I will check now

what BIOS version? current is 2.90 (07/23/2013)

seems there was some memory lapse issues under older BIOS version 4x4 configs.

I am on the latest one, 2.90, I did the BIOS update today in hopes it would make it faster, it hasn't :/ also I checked the SATA ports, moved some things around and no difference it seems :/

You can, but then it has this black screen and it takes the same time, I boot of an SSD and it takes 30 secs, not slow, but I am sure it can be faster, my HDD I had before hand was 1 full minute, it is amazing how it half the time now for the boot. But people get like 15 secs at the most, which is what I was hoping for with Samsung SSD Evo 120GB :c

yes it is in AHCI, do SSD's usually take this long? after the BIOS splash screen it is like 10 secs, so I am sure there is something going on with the BIOS splash screen. I just got this SSD for christmas from my mum, I didn't think it would disappoint :/

I believe it's how long the "Press DEL or F2 key to enter setup" message stays on the screen.

How did you move from the HDD to the SSD? What I'm interested in is if there are pieces/drivers that have to load from the HDD during Windows boot?

Try booting into safe mode. Does it boot a lot faster?

I it might be, but even on 1 second it is slow, on 5 seconds I don't see a difference, I moved from HDD to SSD, by doing a completely clean install of windows 8 ultimate. However I did forget to format my SSD, but I don't think that matters, because it was brand new. I will try safe mode hold on

So just tried safe mode and it helped me realise that whenever I restart my PC, the BIOS splash screen, goes away almost instantly, sometimes it doesn't even appear giving me a boot time of 10 secs! Only when I do a cold start does it have a BIOS splash screen of like 15-20 secs this sucks :c
