Well, there are APU-SATA connectors in a lot of motherboards which won't work if you're using up more PCIe lanes, like with an m.2 NVMe drive. If you are using one of those, you might wanna just use up other SATA 3 connectors. And if not, you either have a broken port or broken drive port.

You can use any other port on the board, provided your SATA controller as a whole isn't dead.
