Question about replaceing thermal paste

Hey guys . 

My daughter's PC is running  2 EVGA 980s SC reference design cards. I was wondering should I replace the thermal paste. And if so would I have to replace the thermal pads as well.

Have to? No, but there is a chance you will damage the pads when disassembling the cards to repaste them.  I'd get some new pads and replace them just in case.  They dry out over time like the paste does.

Is there a certain type of thermal pad to get. Only changed out the thermal pads  when I put my waterblock on my 1080

If temps are fine i see no reason in replacing them.
