Planning an upgrade

Hi. First of all I would like to say that i am pretty unexperienced in upgrading pcs. I have a system that my friend built like 4years ago. Of course I did upgrade it but nothing too big. The biggest upgrade I did was I bought a GTX1060 3GB. (I am 16 so money is not an easy thing)

Currently my pc:

CPU Intel Core i5 4460

GPU Nvidia GTX1060 3GB

MOBO MSI B85-G41 PC MATE

RAM Kingston 8GB DDR3

NO SSD

I am planning on upgrading my system. I would like to upgrade my CPU, MOBO and RAM. When I tried choosing parts I came up to something like this:

CPU Intel Core i5-8400

GPU Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB (i already have it)

SSD Kingston A400 240GB

RAM Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 2666 C16 1x8GB

MBD Asrock B360M Pro4

Should I upgrade to this or should I upgrade to AMD Ryzen 5 1600x (the 1600x is cheaper than the 1600 in my region)

If I am doing something wrong or this just doesnt make sense then please tell me.

Try and find a used i7 4770 or i7 4790 instead.

Your current spec isn't toooo bad. Question is what are you doing with this PC, and is it just for games? If so, which?

E sport games your rig is fine. Put money into a nice monitor and SSD.

If you want to latest greatest prettiest AAA games, maybe consider switching to a new platform.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Buying used is a better option for you.

Where in the world do you live? We might be able to find region specific prices if you provide us with that information. If not what we suggest might not be available in your area for whatever reason.

I am using my pc for games. I play stuff like PUBG, nothing too bad. I dont know why I felt the need to upgrade it then. I guess I just want to make my pc look better by buying a new motherboard, but since my cpu asks for LGA1150 there is not much choice for me

Yeah well I personally don't think your current rig is too bad. You'd really benefit and be super pleased with an SSD.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

Put OS, most played games, and applications on the SSD so they launch fastest. Prices have levelled a bit finally now so a 500GB SSD isn't completely extortionate price wise like it was not too long ago.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

That's just throwing money away on something you don't need, never upgrade purely for looks. Like I said earlier you'd be better off looking for a used i7 4770 or i7 4790 and like @userzero said an SSD will make a huge difference in the speed of your machine. These upgrades alone would put your PC into a whole new league, and you will certainly notice the improvements straight away.

From my 10 Minute search it seems like the Kingston SSD you linked is highly likely the most affordable and easiest upgrade option for you at the moment.

You should notice a massive improvement in boot times and game load times.

It might be possible with the Euro to acquire the SSD from a nonlatvian source and acquire more storage at a better price even with shipping included, but I must confess I am not the most well equipped for that particular search.

Ok so I found a used I7 4770 for 175euros. It seems to be a good deal, right?

Checked his motherboard's QVL and the 4790 is not supported by it. The 4770 is effectively top tier for the board aside from the 4770k

I'm sure a BIOS update was needed to make it fully compatible with Devils Canyon, correct me if I'm wrong.

Get the CPU first then once you receive it update it to the correct version using your old CPU.

According to QVL list to rock the 4460 you already have your BIOS is already at at least 7850v25 and can totally support most everything that can be slotted on the board aside from some of the Haswell Refresh chips which would require 7850v27. Those chips would be performance downgrades in comparison to a 4770 or 4790 for the most part aside from the E3 1286v3 @ 3.7 GHZ or the Intel Xeon E3-1281 v3 @ 3.70GHz

So I found 2 listing for the CPUs. Which one is better? Because the price difference of the listing is only 5 euros.
