Razer sphex mouse mat

So i’m getting into more competitive gaming and iv had this matt for a few years and I feel like it required too much pressure to move at first and this makes the first movement jumpy with the mouse matt. As I have never used any other matt do other matts do this or should I change it. My mouse is the Razer Mamba tournament edition.
