optane is a type of storage. Its non-volitle(holds data on power loss), and faster than nand flash. its slower than ram though.

Its used in many differen products. There is:

Optane memory, a small nvme drive that designed to be used with intel srt for caching a hdd or ssd

800p, 900p, and 905p drives, larger nvme drives desigend to be as a nvme drive.

and optane dimms that aren't out yet that replace ram.

So the memory intel optane "just" makes ur storage faster?

It won't just make your storage faster. For a desktop, its  cache drive so it tries to predict what files are use the most and stores them in the faster optane. There are lots of competing solutions like sshds, storage spaces tiering, storemi, bcache and others. They all work about the same here.

oh. So another question. Is it worth it? xD

Only in very specific situations, most of the time its easier and cheaper to buy an ssd to put your stuff on. not to mention that is is only compatible with specific intel chipsets.

uhmm... dont mind my i3-8100 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/j6Np3b (Im gonna probably upgrade the cpu bcs of amazon primed day discounts xD)

Yea in your case it would be a good buy. Would speed up the hdd a good amount and fairly cheap easy upgrade. Make sure to backup before adding it.

Id upgrade your gpu before the cpu if your maingly gaming.

no. The optane that "boosts" your storage is not worth it. The Optane SSD drives and the Optane DIMM's are a different story.

In your case it would be massively more beneficial to get an real SSD and to put windows on it.

I would say getting an ssd would be an better option? Then he could have his Windows and programs on the SSD. The current price of optane 32gb is 60 $ on amazon.com, while for that you could get a 256gb ssd.

for this build i recommend just buying an SSD since that speeds up everything you put on in not only files you access regularly.

But the optane will give about the same speed, and won't require moving any data around or doing a reinstall. And that way the games load faster aswell.

Id go 16gb here, should be fine.

what about both ? :)

For the price of both you could get over an 500gb ssd and just get rid of the hdd all together. Then if you get rid of the hdd you could get a 1tb ssd.

Id get the optane over a small ssd as it makes everything faster, is cheaper(ig go 16gb) and won't require moving any of your data around.

Yes that looks like a good build. Install your programs and windows on the ssd, and the games on a hdd.

While this ssd is massively cheaper and better, it doesnt have rgb:

Of if you don't have the pc, then get a seprate ssd like a mx500. Id go 500gb and see if thats enough for all your stuff.

While it actually doesnt. It isnt some magical device that can fit your entire hdd on it. It can only hold 16gb of data. What does that mean? It means 90% of it is deticated to make windows faster, and the other few gigs are left for your games and files. Todays games are 60+ GB each, so there is no way that this tiny thing can make them all faster.

I would take a small ssd anyday, because i can get a 120gb one instead of 16gb.
