Upgrade sequence?

deathray44

Hello all.

I have been building up a pc slowly over past 6 months or so to play 1080p games, which it does fine at and a bit of web browsing.

The computer I had before was some 2010 Acer pre-built with a 2120, 4 GB ddr3, and a 9600gt from aeons ago up until about October 2017, when I bought a 730 for 10 bucks off a friend.

It was like, ultra potatoe PC.

Anyways, here Is what I have now: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mhCVw6

MB: AB350 pro-4

CPU: R-5 1600

GPU: 1050TI

RAM: 1x8gb 2666 ddr4
SSD: m.2 PCI-e WDblack 250gb

PSU: 650w b3 evga

CASE: Bitfenix aurora

Screens:  LG 21TN and LG 23IPS both 60hz

So the end goal is to buy a 1160/70/80 and appropriate monitor,  eventually, but I just thought I'd check in and try to get an idea where I have to upgrade and replace.

I don't think I'll need a CPU upgrade, but maybe if a 2XXX AM4 one comes on cheap.

I need to replace the PSU with another one as it's a fire hazard or something, (I put a thread up about it earlier.) PC shop said he'll do some sort of trade in for another model, store credit or whatever.
Right now for the next like 3 days, the ram I have in my machine is on sale 8$ CAD off, so I'm pretty sure I'm going to jump on that and get to at least 16gb. I'm told that dual channel makes a world of difference anyway, and 16gb would be nice.

I think the safest route is to get the RAM/PSU, and save for GPU/monitor, and then in a years time worry about SSD's for mass storage.
Does this make sense to you all as well?

Also no, no RGB, I do not like it sam I am.

I'll post some pictures when I get the time I got one of those old teachers desks, and I'd love to take the drawers out and add an openable door, platform, and window to look inside the desk after sanding and painting it. Probably add some utility holes along the surface to run cables throughout. When I do get around to that, I will post pictures and an actual in-depth build log.

If you have the spare cash, i'd look into an 1160, when they launch. SK Hynix has just started full production of GDDR6, so you would probably have 5-6 months to wait, if you were to go with that option.

Main PC:

AMD Ryzen 7 5800X • Noctua NH-D15 • MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk • 2x8GB G.skill Trident Z Neo 3600MHz CL16 • MSI VENTUS 3X GeForce RTX 3070 OC • Samsung 970 Evo 1TB • Samsung 860 Evo 1TB • Cosair iCUE 465X RGB • Corsair RMx 750W (White)

Peripherals/Other:

ASUS VG27AQ • G PRO K/DA • G502 Hero K/DA • G733 K/DA • G840 K/DA • Oculus Quest 2 • Nintendo Switch (Rev. 2)

Laptop (Dell XPS 13):

Intel Core i7-1195G7 • Intel Iris Xe Graphics • 16GB LPDDR4x 4267MHz • 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD • 13.4" OLED 3.5K InfinityEdge Display (3456x2160, 400nit, touch).

Got any questions about my system or peripherals? Feel free to tag me (@bellabichon) and I'll be happy to give you my two cents.

PSA: Posting a PCPartPicker list with no explanation isn't helpful for first-time builders :)
