After a windows force update i lost alot of files.

This is what is currently shows when i right cilck properties

This is what showed up before the update

image3.png.c63c94a4ba0fabd8d6b35215a6b38360.png

When i tried to copy paste the folder to a new location it said that the folder was 121gb and had 43,595 files (After the transfer was completed and i right clicked properties it showed the same thing as the first screenshot) It also took up 121gb on my hard drive.

I'm not sure if this means my files are corrupt (I'm not sure if they are even in the folder anymore). I have also tried clicking on some of the files and all of them open up normally (I've went through atleast 200-300)

I appreciate all of the help i can get to recover the files

Welcome to the forums! What did you have saved on your desktop that was 45 GB? I would normally say the loss of "files" after a windows update are the updates themelves being installed. Windows preloads updates and then installs them which would explain the file "loss".

My Rig - Intel I7-5820k@ 4ghz| Rampage V Extreme| 4x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4|RTX 2060 SUPER| Corsair 650D| Corsair HX750| 2TB Samsung 850 EVO| H100i| 3x SF-120's| 1x 240 cooler master Red LED Front intake

Everything I say defaults to include /s

Bit of a stupid question but have you checked in your recycle bin? If they aren't in there download and run Recuva, I've used it a couple of times now and most the time it will help you out. https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva

I should've asked before but do you have hidden files viewable? You can check by going to This PC and clicking the View tab then check the box Hidden Items, if it's already ticked see what Recuva brings back.

I have the hidden files thing on and the file recovery just completed, it only found 2k files (2.6gb worth)

Could be that your profile could be corrupted, are you confident in Regedit? If you are open it up and head to HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Windows NT>CV>ProfileList open that directory up and there should be a key for your profile, you know if the entry of ProfileImagePath says your username on the right handside. Your profile is corrupted if this key under ProfileList ends in .bak

Yeah so on the left you'll see a key starting in S - and a bunch of random letters and numbers. Does it end in .bak?

None of them end in .bak

Do you still have the original folder that you copied over? I'm going to the gym now so I'll have a look when I come back

I do still have the folder yes

So the files have only gone missing after you've pasted them to the new location?

Do you have any backups of the folder? It's sounding more and more that it could be lost.
