Intel Cannon Lake - Thoughts?

I'm thinking of building a new top of the line PC and was wondering if there was any news on the upcoming Intel Cannon Lake CPU's.

 

I did some searching and everything points to late 2018 / early 2019. So I'm likely going to just opt for a 8700k or an i9 - 79xx series in the mean time.

 

Just in case there is something I missed before I spend the big bucks... any enhancements worth waiting for?

The thing i think will be best about cannon lake is that meltdown is more than likely patched

but other than that it will probably just be 5 ipc gain at the most and 8 cores mainstream. 

 

that's just what i think is gonna happen tho

 

and yeah the 8790k might be worth waiting for

I think it's going to be 8 cores. or the 9700k is 8 core, I forget.

probably but then would the 9700k just be like kabylake was? rebrand with higher clocks and no ipc gain?

not saying kabylake is bad just it wasn't really anything special ya know.

That was why I went with Kaby and not Sky. Cause I can OC the 7700k higher than a 6700k, like way higher, and it supports optane.

Yeah. If we can have a actual reason to buy a new CPU, if people have older builds, higher core counts and higher clocks, could mean better single core. Then that would be interesting.

it will definitely be interesting to see that on mainstream cause i mow lawns and that's really all i could afford

currently i've been stuck on sandybridge for a while and i like to edit things and whatnot but i game some 

i've been looking at ryzen 2700x for me because the socket upgrades till 2020 seems nice. 

 

i'm really excited to see what they have after cannon lake comes out but i'm sure there both a hell of alot better than a 2700k sandy bridge soo.

Lol I used a i3-2120 for 3years and then in 2016 I used a i5-4590 for 9months. Then I bought a Pentium G4600 and my current 1060. Then December 6, 2017 I bought a i7-7700k. So I had my fair share of.... Integrated Graphics.
