Is there a reason why you want to buy a three years old Skylake processor in 2018 and pair it with the 3 GB version of the 1060?

That deing said, Skylake was designed to be used with DDR4 and DDR3L (low voltage DDR3). There are socket 1151 boards that do support DDR3, however Intel has warned the extra voltage could reduce the lifespan of the memory controller (located on the CPU).

Hey sorry for the late reply but I was wondering the 1060 3gb is the graphics card I am getting what CPU should I pair with it and which motherboard btw I have decided I don't care what ram it supports but ddr4 would be better.

As I and @valdyrgramr already mentioned, it's not worth it to build a system around a 3 years old architecture.

A few questions to make us able to help you out with your problem:

Can you mention the components that you already have?

What is your budget for the remaining components?

What are you going to use the computer for? Simple daily tasks like web browsing, checking email, writing text etc. Or gaming (which ones)? Content creation like video or photo editing?

I have not actually bought any parts yet since I want to get all the information I need before buying. It will mainly be used for gaming and normal use. my budget is ruffly £400. I also live in the United Kingdom.
