Hi guys, I just got a new laptop, a HP EliteBook 3TU05PA. After a Windows update, the internal Intel XMM 7630 LTE modem stopped working. I've tried rolling back to a system restore point prior to the update, restoring Windows and reinstalling Windows. HP has had to motherboard replaced (though not the modem, I don't know why). I've gone through windows support, who have told me they can't help and I currently have a ticket open with Intel too.

From my own diagnostics, I've found that Windows is detecting the device, though in a really weird way. The XMM 7360 is connected via PCI like any other network adapter, however, it's showing up as a system device in device manager. What's more, under its properties, Windows seems to think it's connected via USB and that it's an old piece of hardware that isn't compatible with USB3.0. As a result, every few minutes I get the generic Windows device disconnect and then reconnect sounds.

Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? HP have ordered a new XMM 7360 but I don't think this is hardware related. I'm waiting to hear back from Intel but who knows how long that will take.

Did you ever get this fixed?

I'm having the exact same issue on a Zbook 14u G5. Once I install the XMM 7360, Windows 10 is constantly making the plugged in / unplugged harware sounds.

It seems to install the XMM as a System device, then changes its mind, uninstalls it, then reinstalls as a Network device. The process just loops continuously
