I'd just get the Nexus 7 2013, 7" is the sweetspot for gaming and it costs a few bucks so you can get a comfortable-to-use phone together with it. I personally think that Note III is just way too big to be comfortable for normal day to day use, while something like the S4 Mini is very handy and doesn't break the bank.

If you cared only for gaming tough, the NVIDIA Shield might be a better option, tough the Nexus would still be a tablet, so watching movies exc. would be still comfortable.

So my summary: S4 Mini + Nexus 7 2013/NVIDIA Shield

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro

My Build log, the Snowbird (heavy WIP): http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/188011-snowbird-by-lachy/?hl=snowbird
