I'm rocking a 1070 and it has three DP, HDMI, and DVI. I already have two displays already plugged in (2556x1080 and 1920x1080) and they are plugged via HDMI and DVI. I got myself one of those DP to HDMI from Bestbuy and not knowing I needed an 'active' one, since the third display I want to hook up is one of those display tablet (Wacom) things. So I got an active one off of Amazon, plugged it in the DP port and plugged the tablet display into the HDMI. It seem to work fine, then I notice a weird thing happen on my screens and notice a weird error in windows (2017) durring the time it happen. I don't know if I was pushing my 1070's max display output, or bad port, or bad dongle. Ever since I unplugged it, the dongle, everything is normal.

I haven't tried it with the type of display you have said but do you have a link to the dongle your using and can you test it on any other device? or on one of the spare display ports, If it does it on all the other ports I would say it is either the display or the dongle, I would also try the dongle on another display just to see. And if you can I would also suggest to try the monitor directly on the HDMI port. Hope this helps and I hope I havn't just repeated what you have already tried.

Can't really test it on any other computer since it is only computer with normal DP. I have used the tablet display on a different computer via HDMI, and no issues. Still leaves me with DP to HDMI dongle could be the cause, it not working with the display tablet, or something else.

If the tablet works with another HDMI port, I would say to try the monitor you have plugged into the HDMI port on the adaptor and plug the tablet into the HDMI port to see if the problem still persists, with the 1070 I dont think you are exceeding the max resolution as it can technically handle 8k at 60hz according to NVidia. Also if possible I would try another monitor or TV in the adaptor with the other two monitors plugged in.

I plugded the dongle into different DP port, and all I got was a massive spam of error 2017, even when I plug in a different USB. After removing the dongle, the error doesn't appear anymore when I plug in a USB device. So yeh. Confusing.

Do you have a link to the adaptor you bought? Also it sounds as though it may be a faulty adaptor, https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00S0C7QO8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 this is one Ih ave been using for 1080p at 75hz and it seems to be working fine, I would advise to return the one your using and try a different one if possible.

That is one I got and I tried to do another test and only time the error 2017 comes up in Event Viewer is when I plug the usb part of the tablet into the computer. It does have a pass through, but I don't know if that could be the one causing it.

You said that you have tried it using hdmi on another computer, was that using the USB, also have you tried plugging the tablet into the usb and HDMI port on your PC rather than using the adaptor? If you have tried these and the problem is there then it may be a faulty tablet, I have also looked into the error code you are saying is showing on eventviewer and I can only find ones relating to servers for the Cache, if the above problems still happen then unfortunately I can't help any further.

It isn't much of a faulty tablet since it works fine on other computers. I fixed the constaint spam of the error 2017, but in doing so, I tried to fix the other error that I get once in a while (1008 and 1023) and end up getting

"Unable to read the "First Counter" value under the usbperf\Performance Key. Status codes returned in data."

It is one of those - fix one thing and sometrhing else breaks. :\

Yeah when I was looking into the error code that you first provided I saw those two popping up aswell, the only solutions that I found were to do with editing the registry and they were normally for a server and didnt always work. Sorry but I can't really help any further with this.

Yeh. I tried to poke another fourms, that no one responded. Seeing I get no crashing or anything like that. I'm not going to worry about it at this point. It'll fix itself. Thanks anyways. :)
