Increasing refresh rate reduces resolution

I have been windows 7 user since like beginning of this year, and i always OC'd my monitor to 75 Hz. I have 1080p 60 Hz monitor but usually i changed the resolution to 1280x1024 and overclocked to 75 Hz. But now when i choose the 1280x1024 resolution and the change the refresh rate to 75 Hz it changes to 640x480 instantly. So what do i do now? Can someone help?

Sounds like you don't have the proper drivers installed. I'd just run it at 1080p 60Hz, otherwise you're losing a lot of quality by going down to 1280x1024.

I have installed all drivers and everything i used this kind of setup for more than a year, drivers allow to change it , but windows changes resolution by itself when i select 75 Hz instead of 60 Hz. Btw i dont really feel the quality loss, and i prefer playing on higher refresh rate.
