240hz Problems

So I just got my brand spanking new xl2540 the other day, it's connected via a DP cable to my 970, but there's a problem. When I start up my pc I can get 240hz easily, but if I launch something like GTA or fortnite, it will be taken down to 144hz. The only way to get it back up to 240 is if I restart my PC. Any suggestions?
