Want to Upgrade CPU/Motherboard

Hi all,

I am wanting to upgrade my CPU or motherboard as the title suggests. I have a few questions though.

1) Which one should I upgrade first and how difficult is it?

2) What is an affordable but smart and good-performing option?

3) How does transferring Windows 10 over work/ is it possible?

If any other questions arise I will post them here. Any and all help is appreciated and thank you in advance for your time.

The platform you are on is dead. Close to no support for it from developers, and there is no upgrade path after the FX 8350.

You can switch to Ryzen. You can choose a Ryzen 5 1600/X. The Ryzen 5 is a very good performing CPU, and doesn't cost much compared to Intel CPU's like the i5 8600.

You can keep the 1050ti but it wont perform the best. Upgrading to a 1060 or a 1070 will be your best bet.

hi.

Would you recommend upgrading motherboard as well or would I be alright keeping what I've got?

The motherboard you have isn't compatible with the Ryzen 5 1600X, so you'll have to get a new one (they use different sockets). A good way to know if your Motherboard is compatible with your CPU is by enabling the "Compatability" filter on pcpartpicker.

In order to move to a more current cpu it will be necessary to concurrently replace cpu, motherboard, and memory.

When moving to a new cpu and motherboard it is best to reinstall Windows 10 and all programs.

I just realized after looking at PcPartPicker that the Cooler Master 212 EVO isn't compatible with he rest of the build. Do you have another idea for CPU cooling. Doesn't have to be liquid or RGB (I was experimenting with he other one) just has to perform well and not cost an arm and a leg.

Cryorig H7 is inexpensive and roughly the same as a Hyper 212 Evo. Noctua NH-U12S is a bit better but more expensive.
