Help with front audio jack

I am able to use mic from both my front and rear microphone 3.5mm jack of my cpu case. But I am able to use the slider for audio input of the mic in the rear panel but its locked in the front panel. So the sound recorded from the real panel is clear and loud. But the sound recorded from the front panel is barely hearable It is not possible for me to use the rear panel I only used it for testing. Generally I use the front panel as my headphone wire is not too long. I want to use the front panel audio slider be enable how can I fix it? I am new to linux and don't know much. I am using Ubuntu GNOME 16.04.2 x64. Please help me.
