Chrome Mistyped Keystrokes

This seems to only occur after extended periods of use in Google Chrome, but regardless of keyboard, I will sometimes acquire a bug where certain keys (seemingly random keys each time) register the value of a different key. For example, the "e" key will type "i" or "1" will become "w" or something similar. This is a small oddity, but it makes it quite unusable... even if I restart the program, it will still occur. The only fix is a hard reset.

 

Just wondering if anyone else has this issue and if you might know of any possible fixes. Thanks in advance for any input.

Interesting... first wild ass guess, maybe you're inadvertently hitting a key combination that changes the character map to a different key layout?

@lantin That wouldn't explain the fix on reset or it changing during use. It's sometimes keys I don't use often. For example, I noticed the "0" key output ">", which has no correlation whatsoever. I'm running Windows 7, so it may be compatibility, but it's not that old. I figured they'd still develop for it and whatnot. Especially simple functions like keyboard drivers.

 

However, my intuition suggests it's more a driver problem, because I once tested it to have similar problems in Firefox, too. Safari never gave me issues, but that got out of date quick and I've since deleted it. Never tried on IE.

When it happens is the problem limited to the browser then or does everything do it? E.G. if you open notepad and type do you get the same behavior? You said regardless of keyboard too, does that indicate you have tried replugging the keyboard or switching to a different keyboard while the problem is occurring? Really throwing out an edge idea here, but when it happens again can you trying pulling up the on-screen windows keyboard and checking to see if it exhumes the same behavior?

@lantin It's exclusively a browser problem, but happens across two different browsers. I can immediately open Microsoft Office, .txt files, notepad, etc. and they all work fine on the problem keys. I've tried both a brand new mechanical keyboard (gateron, reputable switches) and a rubber dome wireless that has served me well for a while. Ironically, the wireless keyboard actually broke recently, but it has occurred on the mechanical. With regards to plugging in different keyboards, no, I'm just citing multiple instances. I had changed keyboards to test a new one for another computer that isn't  finished being built yet.

 

That's a good idea with on-screen keyboard. I'll be sure and try that. Unfortunately, I can't force the problem to occur, but whenever it does, I'll do that.

Uninstall your browser and reinstall it.

It's pretty much the only thing I can think of. I have never heard of anything like this before

Its super strange. The only time I can think of a keyboard behaving like this is in Linux when I chose the wrong keyboard type. I don't really see how that would get screwed up randomly and only in  browser though.
