Hey guys, I used to follow the graphic card scene heavily but I haven't had time to research the new graphic card series from either Nvidia or Radeon. I know that Radeon cards prices jumped because of the bitcoin miners, but is there any expected time the prices will begin to come back down? For example, the 280x is $400 right now, what was it before the spike?

Thanks guys :)

No no one knows how long it will stay at that price, it was around $300-$330 before the price increase.

Wow, definitely will be picking one up to crossfire if it's only $300. Hopefully it's not too long till they come back down in price..

Do you already have a 7970? If you don't you're better of with a 290 or 290X

If you do, sell your current 7970, and buy a 290(X) or Nvidia equivalent.

I've got a 7970 GHz right now, the majority of people are saying to crossfire it with a 280x, saying it will out-perform a 290x.

It will, but it's usually better to have a single card setup.

Crossfire still has... issues.

I don't think you will be gaming with 3 monitors but:

We typically avoid recommending multi-GPU setups with mainstream cards because we'd rather buy a higher-end single-GPU solution and avoid the pitfalls associated with SLI and Crossfire. Many games ship with poor dual-GPU support and require special attention from AMD and Nvidia, and with lower-end multi-GPU setups, performance can be pretty lousy when only one graphics card is being tapped.

You can sell your 7970 now and get a 780 Ti. That would be pleasant.
