Thanks in advance to everyone that reads and helps out.

I just had another reading and overclocking session, trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong and why I'm not achieving the overclock other people are.

With a PT of more than 100%, everything crashes at an overclock above +50 +50.

I just finished an hour overclock session and ended with PT 100% CC+120 MC+600.

Is my PSU killing my overclock here?

While using Valley at 1080p, I got 83fps with an overclock of 135% +50 +0. And got 85.8fps with 100% +120 +600.

How does this make any sense?

I'm using Driver 331.82

Here are my overclocking session results in order of

Test number / FPS / Power Target / Core Clock / Mem Clock

1/78.4 - Stock

2/81.3 - 135%

3/83    - 135% +50

4/Fail   - 135 +100

5/81.1 - 100% +100

6/Fail   - 100% +150

7/81.7 - 100% +120

8/Fail - 110% +120

9/Fail - 110% +120

10/81.4 - 100% +120

11/Fail - 105% +120

12/79.6 - 100% +0 +200

13/80.2 - 100% +0 +300

14/81 - 100% +0 +500

15/80.9 - 100% +0 +600

16/85.8 - 100% +120 +600

EDIT: Using PrecisionX, with 100% +120 +600, GPU 1 is reading at 706MHz - 3604MHz

damn, you are insane overclocking that card! :D but your 700w psu should be fine.

edit: what temps are you getting?

Well I've not got much else to do today, lol.

I think the highest it hit was 84c, I'm going to be gaming later with HWMonitor running to see how it goes temperature wise.

Any idea on why the PT is instantly crashing my overclocks?

84°C is pretty acceptional.

Not sure why your PT is doing that, i dont have any problems with setting a higher PT on my 780 (which is a totally different card but... ^^).

I dont think theres anything wrong with the psu/power drawing of the card though since it would instantly shut down in that case, i guess. But +120/+600 ís very impressive at 100% PT.

I was able to run at 100% +0 +800 but lost fps, compared to 100% +0 +600, assumed it was throttling...

I'll probably push it harder at some point in the future.

I just wish I knew why it was crashing when the PT was put up.

Thanks for your help btw.

+100 or more on the core is not fully stable going by your numbers. Try in between 50 and 100.

Back off that memory OC to around 300 (see how +600 gained you nothing). That's still a massive memory o/c.

If you can get 75/300 out of the card that would be great.

Can precision monitor the power target usage? Afterburner can. I found it was a completely useless variable on the 680, used only to throttle the card if it was exceeded, which it never was due to no increase in voltage over stock.

Thanks for the advice.

Just finished another small session an unfortunately lost 1.3fps when upping the PT and lowering the Core and Mem.

16/85.8 - 100% +120 +600
17/82.6 - 135% +50 +0
18/82.7 - 135% +60 +0
19/83.2 - 135% +70 +0
20/83.5 - 135% +80 +0
21/Fail - 135% +90 +0
22/Fail -  135% +0 +200
23/81.6 - 135% +0 +150
2484.3 - 135% +80 +150

  • 2 years later...

Reference cooler!!!!!!!!!!!!!! non of that ugly 3rd party *****   (poop)

now this will last as long as i want it too but i can go to about 180(MHz) on the clock in some games but otheres it will only last about 10 min then it will disable the drivers and go back to desk top

voltage =  1.225

power limit = 110%

core clock = +170(MHz)   = 1225(MHz) and boost will get it up to 1305(MHz)

memory clock = +570  i just cant get to 600 i can get to about +590 but sometimes it will crash some times its fine so i bring it down for stability  over all effective speed of 7153(MHz) idk why its 3 but thats what msi says

fan speed = custom curve

pay no attention to the right cos im at idle just browsing the web
