Does anyone have any recommendations for software which allows remote access of a PC?

I am building my first home-built Windows desktop at the moment. I would like to be able to remote access this machine from my Google Pixelbook when I am away from home in order to stream the media stored on it. I would also like to remote play some games stored on the home PC which wouldn't be too affected by minor lag/latency issues (like Football Manager, for example).

Can anyone suggest the best way to go about this?

yeah its good all the tech scammers use it

This is hilarious because it's true :D

I use teamviewer all the time to help support people. I don't have it set up for unattended access to my home machines, since that isn't functionality I need, though it does support that also.

I especially like that it can record your teamviewer sessions so that if a client claims you did something while they "weren't looking" or were "at the bathroom" or something, you have video evidence of what has and hasn't been done.

Games WILL be a problem - and this is a problem that can't easily be solved over wan. The latency of the software will be nothing compared to the latency of your internet connection - you'll be heavily bandwidth limited if you don't have fibre. Even if you have high uploads (like some cable packages), you'll be shafted by latency.

If you want to play your games remotely and have good performance, a service like Geforce Now will probably fit you really well.

Thanks for the reply. I'm having a look at Geforce Now and trying to understand what it's all about. Using this, am I able to stream any game I own? Or only the (very limited) selection on their website?

Lag/latency might not be too much of a dealbreaker really, because the main reason for setting this up (gaming-wise) is to play Football Manager during my down time at work on my Pixelbook. For anyone unfamiliar with the series, it really doesn't require quick reaction times or anything like that as it's a sports management sim. When you're not clicking around various menus you're watching your team of footballers play their game. You don't control the movements of the players or whatever so there's no quick reactions needed there.

I can't install the full game on the Pixelbook because it isn't available on Chrome OS. But my thinking is that the remote access of a home Windows PC which has the game installed could be the way to go. Or if this Geforce Now service could stream any/all games in my Steam library then that could be the way to go?

I'm a bit lost with it all, TBH.

You would probably be fine with a game like that over teamviewer, actually.

And yes, Geforce Now only supports the games on the site, but the games it does support tend to be a bit more fast-paced, so it would make a bit more sense in those cases I guess.

For you personally, teamviewer is free for home use, so you might as well try it - the worst that happens is the experience isn't quite as good as you'd like.

Yeah, I'll give Teamviewer a go since it's free anyway. I'm just waiting on the delivery of my RAM for the new build which should be here in the next couple of days. After that I can see how it performs and take it from there.

Thanks guys for your replies!

In the meantime if anyone else reading has any suggestions for this then please let me know. Thanks.
