using internal dvd drive externally?

Go to solution Solved by JohnnyGrey,

I don't think two USB ports would power the drive properly, but I see no reason why the computer shouldn't automatically recognize the drive when plugged into the USB adapter.

What I don't understand is why don't you just install it internally? Even if there's no room, have it sitting outside the case with it plugged in internally. As long as it sits flat or vertical and doesn't get bumped, should be fine.

so instead of making a new post decided to re do this one since its sum what related. my question is can i use my old internal dvd drive externally is there some sort of universal driver or something like i plug it in with this usb to sata and the drive opens and closes and it allocates a drive letter on my pc but when i put in media it doesnt show up like my gta disc lol heres some pics of it also i got the usb thing of ebay originally for xbox slim hdd which it works for that in xbox modding programs and the drive worked fine in my old pc when it was plugged in internally.

read op

If you make an iso file and mount it as a virtual DVD it's going to be exactly the same as if you had a physical DVD.

Windows 8 can mount iso files out of the box, for windows 7 you can use something like daemon tools

op says "Also really cbf putting on my laptop extracting the files then transferring it to my external hdd then moving it to my desktop then get a no disc crack lol."
