I built my very first PC with these hardware:

Ryzen 5 1500x (Stock Cooler)

Palit GTX 1050 Ti

Team Elite 2x8GB 2400

Now, when I played games such as Cities Skylines and FF VX I always get 30 to 40 fps. I don't know much about PC specs yet so I was wondering if that FPS was normal for this build? I was also wondering it my monitor affected my ave fps. I have a Samsung S23C350 with only 60Hz. Any help would really be appreciated. Thank you! Also, I'm new to this forum so.. Yey me.

It's hard to say but I would say that seems about right for those specs.  They are each demanding games in their own way (FFXV GPU demanding and Cities CPU).

The monitor Hz won't affect the average FPS unless you are getting above 60fps and have v-sync on.

With a 1050 TI I'm not surprised you're getting FPS like that in those games if you've got the settings cranked up.

The 1050 TI is too weak to handle anything higher than medium settings in FFXV and high-ish in Cities Skylines.

Your in game graphics settings plays a big part to your FPS too. You may wanna look into that if your are not happy with your framerate.

Thanks! I'm currently learning that too. I have yet to know what are the optimal settings for my build in those games.. Do you happen to know any site that tackles those things?

Oh. So, I should be worried then.. I just need to upgrade those specs. which do you think should I prioritize more? CPU or GPU?

The 1500X is a solid CPU, it won't be a bottleneck in any significant way for any GPUs weaker than a GTX 1070 or RX Vega 56.

Therefore you should consider upgrading your GPU if you want to continue running high/ultra settings in games.

There is no one optimal settings to rule them all.
Most games have a general preset setting (usually ultra/high/medium/low), try change lower that to see if does anything to your framerate. Once you are happy with those numbers, you can try tweaking individual settings (like AA, texture quality, shadow quality, etc.) to improve your graphics without sacrificing your fps. Also, don't forget about resolution.

got it. Do you usually put the resolution lower than your actual monitor resolution?

So is 1070 a good way to go?

I guess, if your budget will allow for it.

I'm usually coming up budgets when there's a need to buy one. I goal right now is to just maintain a 60fps with this current build and when it's not enough (like what I learned now) I save up again based on what should I buy next. This forum is I think be best way to ask for help. Thank you!

60 FPS is a reasonable target, but what are you willing to put up with in terms of quality settings?

Are you willing to go with medium settings in your games, if so the 1050 TI is sufficient for at least another year or so. If you want high, you'll have to move up to the 1060 or the RX 580. If you want ultra then 1070.

Awesome!~ Thanks for the guide! This is definitely a big help. I'm trying for that 1070 Ti..
