Lenovo laptop not detecting SD card

toobladink

My friend's laptop is not detecting his SD card.

Specs:

Lenovo ideapad 110-15ISK 80UD

  • Intel Core i3-6100U Processor 2.3GHz
  • Microsoft Windows 10 64 bit
  • 6GB DDR4-2133 RAM
  • 1TB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
  • Intel HD Graphics 520
  • DVDRW Drive
  • Micro SD Card Reader (this is weird, because it's totally a regular SD card reader)
  • 10/100 Network
  • 802.11ac Wireless
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • 15.6" HD LED-backlit Display

The title pretty much says it all. Here's what we have tried to do:

Update card reader drivers from Lenovo

Reboot

Check for other driver and BIOS updates (all up to date)

We realized that he does not have the "Memory Technology Devices" option under Device Manager, so I think that's the issue. But I have absolutely no clue how to get that working. What I have expanded/highlighted is not even an option on his laptop.

Not really sure what else to do or where else to go. Any ideas at this point would be much appreciated!

I forgot to include what his Device Manager looks like.

*TO BE CLEAR*

The first picture was Device Manager on MY laptop, and the card reader works there. This photo below is HIS laptop.

The SD host adapters doesn't work, we can't find any drivers that work. It says "this device is not working because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device."

We also can't find any updates - it was last updated 6/21/2006, which is before this computer was manufactured lol.

Just now, CUDAcores89 said:

Try plugging the SD card into a different computer or using a different SD card reader.

Or boot up into linux and see if the SD card works there. If you don't know what linux is, ignore my previous suggestion.

It works perfectly fine on my laptop. I've never messed with Linux either, so I'm not so sure if I want to try that yet. I'm hoping I'm missing something blatantly obvious lol

The "Memory Technology Devices" subsection in Device Manager is entirely optional - it depends how the device classifies itself.

Do you have a screenshot of Device Manager on your friends machine?

Edit: My bad, posted this before I saw your update.

Can you post the full device id string here? We may be able to find a compatible driver that may help. Has this card reader *ever* worked?

I just posted it before you replied - it may still be uploading or something
