Motherboard cpu compatability

I've got an i7 3770 and am looking to buy a GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard, which says it supports 2nd generation intel cpus, but doesnt mention anything of supporting 3rd generation. I was wondering if it could still support my 3rd gen 3770?

It should, with a BIOS update.

I'd have to use another cpu to perform that bios update tho?

It can, but it will need to be on an updated bios.

Edit: Grabbing a coffee really slowed down my response time here.

Yes, but you can use any CPU that natively supports the socket and chipset. Meaning you can flash the new BIOS with a crappy Sandybridge Celeron and you're all set.

If you have a version lower than F12 you will need a 2nd gen to update.
