I have most of the parts I need for a Photoshop CC/Lightroom PC. I only need storage. I know I want the OS, programs, a couple games, and scratch on SSD(s). I am looking at Samsung EVO 2.5" drives for SSD(s) and a WD Red drive for OS backup/system image and mass photo storage. Would I benefit from having scratch on a separate SSD or should I keep it on the OS/program drive? This will help me determine what size SSD(s) I plan to purchase (either 500GB OS/programs and 250GB scratch, or 1TB for everything).

Sorry if this has already been posted somewhere else , but there is too much information to sift through. Thanks to anyone that can help me answer this question.

Id just get a sinlge 1tb, performance will be about the same, and those programs don't use a scratchdisk much.

Why wd reds? they won't be any better here, just get a blue or seagate barracude here. There also faster than reds.

I want the Reds for their reliability and quietness compared to the Blues. Speed really isn't a factor for mass storage. As far as Seagate goes, I don't trust them. I have used them in the past and they both had reliability issues.

the reds are about the same with noise and reliability as the blues. Reliabliy is a lot more luck than brand. Seagates are fine.

Keep backups and your data is fine, all drives will fail.

I have my mind made up on using Western Digital drives. Too many bad stories of my own and from other people I know about Seagate. I may consider using Blue drives, but when you get above 1TB for the Blues the speeds are the same compared to the Reds (5400 RPM). I'm also a bit of a silence freak (not enough to use all SSDs) so I need mass storage that is going to be as quiet as possible without spending a fortune.

Thank you for your input about the SSD question though.

I am still looking to here other peoples opinions on the SSD subject.
