Front Panel False Detection Help

Hi.

In having a problem where my PC keeps popping up that I am connecting and disconnecting something into my front panel mic port.

I checked for a loose header but it seems fine.

I then took the PC apart and started it without the case and the same pop up still appears.

Does this mean my motherboard audio is broke and I need new one?

Or is there stuff I can try?

Nothing looks physically damaged or burnt on board.

Thanks

With the header disconnected do you still get the same pop up?

Yeah I literally took motherboard out of case and only connected dvi, usbs and 24 and 8 pin power then used screwdriver to fire it up.

If it has this issue even stripped down to bare essentials, that definitely does point to a motherboard issue, but there's a very slight chance it could be software.  Regardless, what happens if you plug something into that port?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If I plug my mic and headphone port into back it doesnt seem to pick up my voice.

If I plug it into the front panels for some reason the back orange port highlights in realtek manager.

something is definitely wrong.  How old is the system?  Have you had it a while and it just failed, or is it brand new?

No ive had it a while. Just had issues with gpu but sound was fine until I opened back panel and since then the sound issue.

Didn't want to fork out for a replacement motherboard for a LGA1150 as its dated and hard to come by.. or expensive.

To check if its a software issue would safe mode work with audio drivers??

And if it is hardware is there anything I can check on motherboard to do with it?

my go to for checking software is a live linux bootable usb.  gets you an entirely different environment, more so than just using safemode.  If it works there, then something is wrong in windows.  If it also has issues, then it's gotta be the board.  If it is the board, tbh I would be tempted to take the opportunity to get an external DAC/amp, even a cheap one, rather than replace the motherboard, since the rest of it is working fine I imagine, and that way you've got something you can carry forward to other builds or devices.

I have a Line 6 PODxt Live connected to my PC which I use as an external soundcard for my PC, so the only time I ever used onboard audio was when I plugged in my headset to talk to friends via games.

But I might just buy a cheap USB mic/headset adapter for £5 and use that for my mic.

Aslong as the motherboard is in no danger that if I go and buy a GTX 1060 and it ends up frying it lol.

Without some more advanced physical diagnostics there's no way to tell exactly what is wrong or what caused it - if it was just a random failure or if something killed it and might damage other components.  But, I think it's unlikely that something else like the PSU has caused damage specifically to the audio components.  Most likely it's just a random failure.
