3d animating Best graphics cards for rendering?

I was considering doing a rendering build similar to Barnecules' server build.

But, his build is for Ethereum mining and rendering camera footage (as opposed to 3D animation footage).

Would an 8x GTX 1060 (3GB or 6GB?) setup work for med-high texture 1440p60fps 3D animations? I was considering doing 6x GTX 1060 6GB + 2x GTX 1080 Ti, but, I need some experience thoughts on this topic.

Or, am I just better off renting rendering nodes?

I'mm confused.

Why not just get 4 1080tis and call it a day and not deal with all the 1060s

I'm not sure.

The total (gpus only) for 4x 1080 Tis would be $3,800.

The total for 8x 1060 6GBs would be $2,300.

Plus, power consumption is lower.

Plus, I just like putting together computers.
