I need help setting up pfsense stuff

I have a school project where I have to teach my school on how to build their own pfsesne router and how to secure themselves online and to acquire better WiFi signal, by making multiple video tutorials on you tube.  I am done building the actual router and installing pf sense on it. Now I need to teach them how to set up the access point and that is what I am kind of stuck on. I am very new to all of this networking stuff and I dont want to spend a lot of money on a ubiquiti access point. Can anybody teach me how to convert my dlink router to an access point and make it work with my pf sense router.
