Games keep crashing! Help!

Hello LTT,

 

I got a used GTX 680 that works fine, benchmarks fine on Heaven, and has the newest drivers installed. I even stress tested my CPU, and that is working fine too. However, all of my games work for a bit and then freeze, but completely are still running, with the exception of Fortnite which just crashes. I was just playing Dota 2 for about 50 minutes and it was working fine until I went back to the menu and it froze. I've tried older drivers, clean install of windows, etc. What else can I try?

Are you sure your overclock is 100% stable? How are your CPU temps looking while gaming?

I've done that, they're normal.

They're looking normal as well.

check event viewer, post the crash information here.

Okay can you define "normal"? And have you done a good amount of stress testing? 4.8GHz on a 4790k is a rather high overclock even for a good chip.

That's outdated my bad. It's running at stock rn.

Ah ok.

 

You could try a round of Memtest86 just to rule out bad RAM. A look into Event Viewer is a good idea also as @MellowCream suggested earlier.

How do I navigate through Event Viewer? The only games that truly crash are Minecraft and Fortnite, the others just freeze.

Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> System and look for exclamation marks with timestamps corresponding to the freezes or crashes.

 

Edit: Can also check under Custom Views -> Administrative Events for errors as well.

This is a symptom of PSU issues or pushing an OC too far.

Not PSU issues, just got a brand new one. Nothing is OCed either.

Fortnite just completely froze my entire PC for over an hour, didn't crash so I couldn't look.

You can go into Event Viewer after the fact, it stores the events so you can check later.

Ha, it's a bit of a puzzle, I know. If you like post a screen cap of the error list with the descriptions expanded and we'll see if we can decipher it.
