Looking to buy old ThinkPad which is around couple of generations old.. But not sure which model is the right one.. In general want a laptop for programming and light gaming and thought maybe ThinkPads could be a good choice But eBay is filled with so many models not sure which is the right one. Budget is around 400$. Any suggestions?

If you are a hardware Thinkpad fan. Anything in the x30 series. Because even they come with the new disgusting keyboard. You can easily swap in the old-school island one.

Hence my fav Thinkpad of all time is still the T430. You can upgrade this to an extreme edition quad core. With some UV+Liquid Metal+FJ pads you can actually tame it (albeit you honestly need to reduce clockspeed by 0.2ghz to get a good everyday temp). Literally a modern ultrabook performance but that laptop lasted 10 years. LOL.
