Hi,

I'm trying to login into my PC and keep getting a black screen with a curser. I have tried the following solutions but still no luck

1) rebooting multiple times

2) switching the monitor cable wire ends

3) task manager>regedit.exe>explorer.exe

4) Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B to wake up the display

Anyone have any ideas on help?

So you are able to BOOT into Windows every time?

If the computer DOES NOT get into Windows, then I would check if the HDD is being detected in the BIOS.

Otherwise, it could be a HDD or HDD power/data cable issue.

If you see a blinking cursor, then your graphics card is outputting a signal...

What are the your COMPLETE system specifications (e.g. CPU, motherboard, power supply, etc) ?

It’s a windows 10 operating system. When I restart I get to the user login page. After logging in is when I get the black screen with a curser. This started happening after my dad went through an update.

I’m not able to provide you with the other details right now but with the above information any idea?

Is the black screen and cursor in Command Prompt within Windows, or the ENTIRE monitor is just black with a cursor?

There is a chance the the OS got corrupted during the update -- can be fixed, depending on the circumstances.

If you have a Windows boot USB/CD/DVD, you can try using that to fix the damaged/corrupted file(s).
