How to modify existing android apps to work on Android TV

Hi,

 

Just wanted to know how to start coding with android apps to make them compatible with Android TV. 

 

I've tried the sideloader method which is terrible with touch screen user interface whilst using my TV's remote. I've also tried contacting the Devs regarding when they are going to bring support or Android TV.

 

So I like to know what software and codes I should use.
