Mounting hard drives vertically

RaXzeD

So, this might be a noob question, but is it okay to mount mechanical hard drives vertically in your case, like you can do with ssd's?

Will it  cause any problems? Have you guys tried it?

I just really want to get rid of all my expansion bays in my 350D, but I'm not sure removing the 3.5" cage would be a good idea.

Maybe it would still look better having the drive hidden inside the cage rather than mounted vertically somewhere. What are your opinions?

It's completely fine as long as it is mounted securely.

It's not bad but you have to be sure that you mount them VERY securely. If it falls its basically screwed.

Check with your drive's manufacturer. But, most modern drives can be mounted in "any orientation".

You can get a 5.25" adapter and mount the hdd in one of the upper 5.25" slots.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

You will be fine. As long as you don't allow them to move around during operation they are in no sort of danger what so ever.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Was just worried if the discs would be imbalanced or something

I'd rather get rid of the 5.25" bay to be honest. Since my H100i's tubes are kind of squeezed in thanks to it. But thanks!

Ask the drive manufacturer. I would not mount a HDD vertically because of the extra stress of gravity on the head(s)

You can buy a HDD 'silencer' and just rest it on the bottom of the case. Scythe do a decent stealthy one.
