Computer turns on and off in a split second

So I just build my first PC and went to power it, which it did for a split second and turned off and in that split second the motherboard light code said 00. Then I went on the internet to find a solution. I then decided to diagnose the problem by taking the PC apart and testing each part to see which one was causing the problem. Prior to this problem occurring I had the computer set up on a cardboard for a few weeks and everything was working until I move everything to a case. So back to what I was saying I found out which part was causing the issue and it was the 8 pin power connector for the CPU, as removing the power connect made the PC not turn on and off in a split second.  I am not sure how to fix this problem but it may not even be fixable in the first place.

Here is specs for the PC:

Intel Core i5 6600k

ASUS MAXIMUS VIII HERO (all the lights seem to be working if that is any help)

Corsair RM650X (brand new only used for couple of weeks)

MSI GTX 980 

8GB of ram (which I removed)

You have shorted something.  Make sure you dont have a motherboard standoff in the wrong place.  There should only be standoffs where there are holes in the MB.

Currently the motherboard is on a cardboard box and its still having the same issue.

If you damaged something getting it into the case or shorted something out with an improperly placed standoff, the board may be dead.

 

Check memory one module at a time, re-seat the CPU, try using the built in graphics if possible.

Code 00 generally means CPU not detected.

 

Try

 

• Clear CMOS (boot PC with the CMOS jumper on the non-default setting (there are three pins))
• Try each stick of ram (reseated)
• Use iGPU
• Reseat CPU

I tried both booting with ram installed and not installed. Also it's one stick of ram, which I know it's not recommended.  .

No 1 stick of ram is fine, you just won't get the benefit of dual channel memory which is really not needed for gaming

I did CMOS reset and it didn't work. i also be been using the IGPU.

You remove removing the CPU and putting the CPU back?
