I have Sony MDR-XB950AP headphones in hand and the 3.5mm jack broke 2 weeks ago and time has come to finally  repair it. I have this 2 slightly different jacks from not working headphones and I don't want any of them to be wasted tbh, so which one is easier to cut open and more suitable for a replacement? And I'll apprichate you if you tell me which color is right and left channels and mic :) oh and btw there's two ground cables not to confuse you. Thanks already.

Either will work, your BEST option is to cut the cord on your donor jack, and solder wires together... if you have a multimeter you can ohm out which conductor goes where on your old and match that up to what you get on the new connector. A good soldering iron, shrink wrap, and maybe some elect tape. Will look like crap, but should still work.

Humor us...how in the world did you break the cord?

Well guys I need a little help here, I (kind of) succesfully soldered the jack to headphones but the music sounds "distant" unless I hold the jack itself, I know I didn't do it successfully but I'm asking is it ground touching the left or right channels or L and R touching each other or connection is just loose. Just help thanks ^^ I don't wana solder again because the jack is too small and seems it will breake  apart next time I'll solder it.
