So my cpu won't post, everything turns on, mobo lights come on, fans spin, and it won't post. I have a speaker that came with the mobo and at the beginning it will beep for a second once and then is followed by 2 very short beeps. I don't know what this means.

1 Long / 2 Short Beeps is the classic BIOS error code for a bad/missing video controller. Depending upon the make/model of the laptop, you may need to replace the motherboard or just the video controller (if it's separate - again, depends upon the make/model).  Jul 6, 2017

I disagree with this personally, it's a custom-built desktop. I've heard it said that the best way to decipher a POST code is to refer to the motherboard manual.

@Maihym: The beeping you hear means your computer is posting. POST = Power On Self-Test, which means the computer tests each of its components before booting, and emits beeps to help the user determine what is stopping it from booting in the event that something does.

Yes, it does say for a laptop.  But in my years of experience I have found that a LOT of information that applies to one system can be used in the other.  Like was said in one of the posts below, the best answer could/maybe be found in the owners manual.  I did not do a google search on the manual, but I did do a search on the sounds that you described.  I strongly encourage you to check out this website.

Is there anyway to fix this because I use a 4790k which has an integrated gpu. So does that mean the cpu is broken?

No, these beeps do not necessarily mean the cpu is broken.  Since what we have found is that "maybe/possibly" the problem could be video related, if you can, try putting a video card in the system.  Most systems that have onboard video will override the onboard video if a video card is found to be installed.  So what we are hoping is that if you put a video card in the system, then it will "see or recognize" that video card and go ahead and boot as it should.  The video card you put in does not have to be anything special, at this point we're just trying to isolate the problem to see if the problem is the onboard video.  Good luck.

So it turns out I needed to reset the cmos but now I don't have a bios even though it asks for a bios password.

If you never entered a password for the BIOS, then it should not ask for one.  BUT, I have found that sometimes when that happens you can just hit the enter key for it to move on, but then sometimes, just entering "password" as the password it's looking for also helps.  So, try just hitting the enter key, or entering "password" and see if one of those two things helps.

Another thing just thought of, maybe check the owners manual and see if they put a password in there.

No that's the weird thing, I use my old password and it works. I tried using a different password to see if it would still work but nope, it only accepts my old bios password. I didn't try just hitting enter or typing password though

Well, as long as it works, great.  I never put a password for my BIOS because I know sure as hell I won't remember it.  And no-one uses my machine except me so that is not a worry.

Will I still be able to boot through usb? Whenever I pass the password screen there's just a blank screen with a flashing underscore

I would think that you would be able to boot thru the USB but hard to say for sure not being familiar with the mobo.  But if you are getting a flashing underscore, that tells you the video is working.  Yea, you are not seeing what you want to see but at least you are getting some sort of signal.  But after resetting the BIOS, you should get some sort of information screen.  How did you reset the BIOS?  Did you shut down the system (remove power cord), remove the battery and short the pins on the mobo?  Some mobo's have a button to use when resetting the bios, but you still have to unplug the machine, remove the battery and then press the button.

I downloaded your mobo manual and looked thru it but could not find specific instructions on resetting the BIOS on the board so I am guessing the mobo maker is taking it for granted that if someone needed to reset the BIOS on the board that they would already know how to do that.

I unplugged it, turned it all off, removed the battery, tried shorting the pins but maybe I did that wrong and it still shows a password screen

Here it is, found it after looking again.

CLR_CMOS (Clear CMOS Jumper) Use this jumper to clear the BIOS configuration and reset the CMOS values to factory defaults.

To clear the CMOS values, use a metal object like a screwdriver to touch the two pins for a few seconds.

• Always turn off your computer and unplug the power cord from the power outlet before clearing the CMOS values.

• After systemrestart, go to BIOS Setup to load factory defaults (select Load Optimized Defaults) or manually configure the BIOS settings (refer to Chapter 2, "BIOS Setup," for BIOS configurations).

After resetting the BIOS, that's when you get the flashing underscore, right?  At this point, I would try the thing with the video card and hope you get a good response from that.  If you do get into the BIOS, first thing you want to check or do is "Load Optimized Defaults".  Then reboot.

How would using a video card be any different?

Don't forget that after resetting the BIOS you have to press the DEL or F2 key in order to get back in to the BIOS.

Some board say use the F8 or F10 key too.

That doesn't work either. I've left the battery out numerous times, I've touched the 2 clear cmos pins with a screwdriver, and yet I keep getting the password prompt. Why is my cmos not fully clearing?

Sorry, can't answer that question.  Many years ago it was possible to remove the BIOS chip but that went away some years back.  Now with the way that mobo's are made, that option is no longer available.  Removing the power cord, removing the battery and shorting the BIOS pins was all that was needed to reset the BIOS.  And resetting the BIOS would erase any passwords and it would reset the BIOS to the defaults.  I can't figure out why that is not happening in your case.  I will do some more digging and see what I can find, but in the meantime, don't hold your breath.
