Hello everyone, this is going to be my very first time building a PC, and after a couple weeks of research I've assembled a build. I'm going to be using it mainly for gaming, along with general web browsing. I would like to be able to play most games at 1080p while maintaining about 60 FPS, and I've purchased a GALAX GTX 1060 6GB EXOC for this reason. However, I've recently come under the suspicion that my current list of parts is disproportionate regarding my needs and i could probably cut costs on various things. The GPU is the only part of the build that I have purchased so far, and I am open to any recommendations.

P.S. I was originally thinking about overclocking so that is why my list is currently an overclocking build, although I'm not entirely certain overclocking is necessary/recommended given what I intend to use it for. I was thinking about switching to an i5 8400, although I'm not sure if this is a good pair with my GPU. Also, if an unclocked build is recommended, should I switch to one of the B360 motherboards that were released earlier today?

Here is my current parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3wwbXP

Thanks for your help.

8400 doesn't seem bad - do yourself a favour and don't get the Z370 boards.

Ryzen is another viable (and cheaper) alternative you might want to consider. All 1600+ CPUs should be more than enough for 1080p 60fps.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Intel has just introduced a couple of new desktop cpu and chipsets.

The i5-8500 is a touch faster than the i5-8400 for about US$10 more. There is also an i5-8600 with similar specs as the unlocked i5-8600K but about US$45 less expensive.

New non-overclocking chipsets are the H310, B360, H370, and Q370.

Only a few of the new cpu and motherboards are listed in pcpartpicker, all the major etailers have listings for some. Over the next week we should see more offerings.

My advice is to wait a week or two as the new offerings enter the distribution channel.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.
