So, the Steam application itself has had performance issues right after adding another GPU in my system.

I have 1x Radeon R7 260X 2GB and 1x Radeon RX 480 8GB.

Steam on linux has been throwing a fit and seems to chugging a lot after the addition of another GPU. Whereas before it was running how it normally does.

How can I fix this?

Thanks.

It's possibly a driver fighting for control issue.

Best to use identical GFX cards. I run Linux (Ubuntu specifically 14.04 LTS) but I'm not certain how to fix this other than yanking out the slower card.

For GPU passthrough, I was told it was the worst idea ever.

People say for GPU passthrough to use totally different GPUs.

So, should I sell my 260X and then buy an RX 550?

or sell the 260X and just be stuck with Wine for non-native games?

I'm not certain, as I'm still working with the VM for games (yeah it's a performance hit, but it beats using, or trying to use, Wine or Crossover)

In all honesty, you'd probably get a much better response from a dedicated site for your distro.

Let's not rush to conclusions, are the games affected in any way? Have you tried running the 260X on amdgpu to avoid conflicts? (and by the way, if you only use the rx 480 for passthrough you don't really need a driver for it in linux)

-edit-

also are we talking ubuntu here or...?

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

I can barely use Steam.

I'm fairly sure the 260X isn't supported on amdgpu. Only Tonga, Fiji, and newer are supported on amdgpu afaik.

Everything older uses radeon afaik.

What about playing native linux games on Linux?

Yup. Ubuntu 17.10. Yes, the amdgpu driver works just fine on it despite only being certified for Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

there's experimental amdgpu support for all gcn cards, it's enough for you to try it. As for playing native games, honestly if you're virtualizing anyway you should probably go windows only for games - very rarely is the performance better on linux.
